Our programs use robotics as a means to equip the
younger generation to face the future through collaboration, discovery, and most importantly the
FIRST Core Values that are at the heart of our mission.
The FIRST Core values fully express the two FIRST philosophies: Gracious Professionalism® and Coopertition®
Gracious Professionalism®
A term coined by FIRST (translatable to gentle professionalism) is a value that fully expresses the FIRST ethos and promotes quality work while respecting and recognizing the value of others. Intense competition does not prevent participants from treating each other with respect and empathy; there is no room for offensive comments. Thanks to Gracious Professionalism® knowledge, expertise and empathy come together harmoniously.
Collaborating between teams is part of the challenge. Coopertition® means learning from other teammates teaching others, collaborating with mentors, managing and being managed. It means that teams help each other whenever they can, even during the competition.

FIRST® competitions for all ages

The FIRST galaxy includes hands-on approach-based science and robotics programs to introduce students to programming and engineering in a creative and inclusive learning environment where students collaborate to solve themed robotics competitions.
FIRST® Lego League
EXPLORE: 6-10 years old
FIRST® Lego League
CHALLENGE: 9-16 years old
In two compelling programs, teams analyze the season’s theme to find innovative solutions to community problems and use Lego Robots to complete missions on the race course.

12-18 years old

Female and male students who participate in the FIRST® Tech Challenge learn to think like engineers. Teams design, build and code robots to accomplish missions on the field in alliance with other teams. The robots are driven by a reusable Android platform and coded at various levels using Java-based programming software.

12-18 years old

FIRST® Global ‘s mission is to inspire leadership and innovation in young people of all nations by empowering them through education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known as STEM. The event is held in a different country each year and uses FIRST Tech Challenge Robots.
